The Boat
Our 50-foot ocean cruiser, "MV Little Ship", has all the comforts and conveniences that you would expect in a yacht of this size. However, it is not a yacht. It is a customized, extremely rugged former U.S. Coast Guard Search and Rescue ship. It is self-righting and self-bailing and was certified by the U.S. Coast Guard when it left the United States to carry 22 passengers into the most demanding exposed ocean waters.
It is equipped with sophisticated navigation systems and survival at sea equipment that far exceeds any passenger vessel safety requirements. It is, in short, probably the safest, best-equipped small ship you will ever be on.
Your Host and the Captain of MV Little Ship
The owner of Exploration Panama, and captain of MV Little Ship, Ron Mager, was first introduced to the remote jungles of Panama while serving in the U.S. Army Special "Forces (Green Berets) more than 35 years ago. Since then he has held a U.S. Coast Guard license and acquired more than 25 years of experience operating boats along the Alaska, Canada and U.S. west coasts, Central America and both coasts of Panama. He speaks Spanish, is married to a Panamanian since 1969 and lives in Boquete, Panama.
On Board Accommodations
The main cabin of our 50-foot ocean cruiser is divided into four sections - the galley, captain and crew quarters, the main salon and dining area, and the forward bunk area. The boat is designed to accommodate a maximum of 6 passengers for overnight voyages.
The forward area consists of 3 bunk beds (two lower and one upper) a large shelf for luggage storage, a toilet, shower, and sink.
The main salon consists of the main helm, two sofas, a fixed table, and two easy chairs (one is fixed in place the other a rocker).
The galley is fully equipped to cook and bake three meals a day for six passengers.
The crew quarters also have a toilet and shower that is shared with the passengers.
There is another shower and toilet located in the lower deck stern.
The upper deck consists of an ample open deck area and a covered helm and passenger seating area.
The main cabin is air-conditioned.
Dining Arrangements
If the guests choose to dine in the enclosed air-conditioned interior they will be seated at two tables facing each other. Three people are seated at the fixed table and three at the collapsible table. Tables can also be set in the aft main deck outside or on the upper deck.
Sleeping Arrangements
As mentioned earlier the forward area has 3 individual bunks. In the main salon one sofa converts into a single bed, the dining table is lowered and converts into a comfortable double bed. There is also one fold down bunk above the double bed. There are privacy curtains between the forward area and the main salon and between the main salon and galley. Each passenger is given a light zip-up sleeping bag and pillow. Extra blankets are available as needed.
Smoking
Smoking is allowed only on the lower aft outside deck.
